When Imagination Meets Innovation: A Cross-Grade Collaboration to Remember! Red Hill High School’s Computer Applications class with Ms Tussey recently completed a heartwarming and creative collaboration with two 2nd grade classrooms from Bridgeport Grade School. What started as a simple idea became one of our most meaningful projects yet. Here’s how it all came together: ✅ Step 1: Character Creation
Each 2nd grader designed an original character using a worksheet we created — choosing shapes, traits, and giving their character a name and story spark. ✅ Step 2: Story Writing
High school students were each assigned a 2nd grader’s character and used it as inspiration to write an original children’s story. ✅ Step 3: Book Design
Students used Canva to design their stories as fully illustrated children’s books — complete with covers, back matter, and even glossaries! ✅ Step 4: Sewing the Stuffies
Each high school student sewed a stuffed animal based on the 2nd grader’s original drawing. The results were adorable and impressively accurate! ✅ Step 5: Binding the Books
Using an old-school binding machine, students assembled their printed and laminated pages into real, durable books. ✅ Step 6: The Big Presentation
The last week of school, students visited Bridgeport Grade School to personally deliver the books and stuffies. Each high schooler sat down with their 2nd grader, read the story aloud, and gifted them their one-of-a-kind creation. 💬 The smiles, the joy, the pride — from both big kids and little ones — made it all worth it. This project was not only a powerful example of creativity and digital literacy, but also of mentorship, empathy, and cross-age connection. We couldn’t be prouder of the heart and effort our students poured into every step. To see more on this project, check out Ms Tussey’s Business Class Page: https://m.facebook.com/MsTussey/ Check out the pictures and video to see the magic for yourself!
