Last week a few students from Ms Tussey's Career Explorations class, along with Mrs Thomson’s Anatomy class, went to Wabash Valley College’s Health Careers Day and Cadaver Presentation. Students got to attend two different workshops to learn more about various healthcare careers. They got to choose from careers like physical therapy, rehab and sports medicine, surgery, radiology, nursing, certified medical assistant, and so much more. Then they ended the day with a surgery and cadaver presentation. It was definitely a one-of-a-kind event!

Over the past few weeks, Ms. Tussey's students have been hard at work on an exciting collaborative book project with BGS 2nd graders. We started by visiting two 2nd grade classrooms to meet the students and help them develop their characters, exploring personalities, motivations, and even quirks that make each character unique. After that we took those characters and worked on steps to develop a story such as brainstorming, story planning, sequencing events, and organizing ideas.

We are going analog first: putting pencil to paper to sketch ideas, outline plots, and draft scenes before ever opening a computer. This hands-on approach helps students think critically about their story structure and gives them room to experiment and revise as they go.

First drafts of their stories have been completed! The next step is peer feedback, where students review each other’s stories, offer suggestions, and help one another strengthen their writing. This process not only improves the stories but also builds communication skills, creativity, and teamwork.

It’s been amazing to watch ideas grow from rough sketches and notes into full stories—and we can’t wait to see these stories transformed into beautiful final books!
