It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Mrs Anne Gartner has worked at Red Hill High School as a nurse for 4 years. There is no ‘set in stone’ daily routine for Anne, every day is different. Some days she is a nurse, and other days she is helping the school office as a secretary. Before working at Red Hill she worked for Pace Community Action Agency for 20 years. She has also worked at Crawford Memorial Hospital in the Critical Care Unit. Lastly, she has worked in Home Health. The best piece of advice Anne has received in her career overall is to “go with the flow, don’t take yourself too seriously.” Her favorite part of her day is the fact that it is something different every day, as well as the students and staff at Red Hill. Anne’s quote or words to live by are, “Strive for excellence, not perfection.” The most challenging part of her job is the limitations the state has on what she can and cannot do to help students. Something she could not live without is her computer. Outside of school her hobbies are reading and gardening. Lastly, her greatest accomplishment from her career currently is completing a school nurse emergency care care, which took a whole year. Anne, your dedication and compassion in providing medical care and support are truly appreciated. Whether it's tending to minor injuries or addressing health concerns, your expertise and nurturing nature create a comforting environment for our students. We are grateful for her presence and the valuable role she plays in ensuring the well-being of our school community. Thank you, Anne, for your exceptional care and commitment! .............................................................................................................. As a project in Ms. Tussey's business classes, the students have worked tirelessly to put together an insightful and heartwarming series of Teacher Spotlights. It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Mrs. Brittany Meeks is the 3rd in Command Cook at Red Hill High School. She has worked for Red Hill for 11 years and subbed for 2 years prior to that. Brittany’s favorite part of her day is doing her prepwork when she gets to cut up fruits and vegetables for the salad bar. She explained the hardest part of her job is time management because they only have a short amount of time to get everything done for the day and prepare for the next day. Something she enjoys every year is the appreciation letters she receives from Red Hill students. If she could tell students one thing it would be to, “Be positive, and have a good attitude.” Outside of work, Brittany is a proud momma to two boys, Aiden and Benny. She is very passionate about saving sea animals. Brittany says if money was no object, she would move south and start a non-profit organization to help get trash out of the ocean. Brittany loves sushi and her favorite snack is Cheetos. Her favorite drink is Sunkist zero sugar. Some of her hobbies include taking day trips and having game nights with her friends. Her favorite game is Chameleon. Her phone is something she uses everyday and could not live without. Brittany’s best career advice is, “Don’t let one bad day ruin your entire outlook.” Mrs. Meeks, we want to express our gratitude for your dedicated service as one of our school cooks. Your delicious meals and warm hospitality make a significant impact on our students' well-being and overall experience. Thank you for nourishing their bodies and creating a welcoming environment in the cafeteria. Check out our RHHS Business Law students' amazing work! They tackled a common issue we all face - clicking "I Agree" without actually reading contracts. These students reviewed social media platform Privacy Policies and User Agreements, identified the most important parts, and rewrote them in layman's terms that we could all understand. To showcase their work, they created large cell phones and decorated them with the important parts of the contracts while staying true to their social media’s brand. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with her teaching degree in Elementary Education. She has served as a substitute teacher for a few years and then transitioned to a para for 10 years. It's Teacher Appreciation Week! Kaitlyn Lasswell is a highly experienced English teacher who has been imparting the power of language and the value of education to students at RHHS for 15 years. Her passion for teaching stems from the impact that her own educators had on her life. She hopes to inspire her students in the same way and to help them understand that their past does not define their future. Over the years, she has taught Freshmen through Seniors, and currently, she teaches juniors and dual-credit seniors. As an introvert, Kaitlyn says that it can be challenging to be the "fun teacher," but she always tries to show her students that she genuinely cares about them and their futures. Teaching is not just a job for her, but a calling in life. Outside of school, Kaitlyn is an active member of her church community, leading worship and using her musical talents on the piano and in singing. She also enjoys reading and taking naps whenever she can. Kaitlyn is a firm believer in the power of making connections with her students, and one moment that stood out for her was when her step-father passed away last fall; many of her students reached out to offer their condolences and comfort through email and messages. It was a poignant reminder to her that what she does as an educator truly matters and that students can teach us just as much as we teach them. Kaitlyn takes immense pride in seeing her students succeed in their college work, careers, and big moments in their lives, and she cheers them on as they reach those milestones in their lives. Mrs. Lasswell, on this Teacher Appreciation Week, we would like to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude for your dedication and commitment to teaching English at our school.
